How does Claude choose which sources to cite?
When web search is on, Claude runs searches for the user's question, reads the pages it finds and cites the ones it used. It prefers pages that state facts clearly, name the business and are consistent with other sources it can check. ClaudeBot must be allowed in robots.txt for Anthropic's crawler to fetch your pages. Claude is cautious about unsupported claims, so pages with prices, dates, credentials and named people are cited more readily than vague marketing copy.
