Losing the generic term, owning the specialist one
Anonymised case study: a single-surgeon Dubai practice conceded the category head term and took seven of ten liposculpture queries into the top ten instead.

Rank tracker, client domain, United Arab Emirates. "What is liposculpture" at 67 and "vaser liposculpture" at 84 are the unfinished part of the cluster.
The situation, goals & challenges
One surgeon, competing against clinic groups with multiple locations, paid budgets and dozens of practitioners each. On the generic category terms that is not a winnable fight, and publishing more content aimed at those terms would not have changed it.
"Liposuction dubai" at 1,000 searches a month sits at 38, "plastic surgeons dubai" at 39, "cosmetic surgeons in dubai" at 37. The practice also had a real specialism that the generic terms hide: liposculpture is not a synonym for liposuction — it is the contouring technique, and the patients who search for it by name are further along, better informed and looking for a surgeon rather than a clinic.
SEO strategy for a single-surgeon practice
The instinct is to fight for the biggest term in the category. For a solo practitioner against clinic groups, that is the one fight that cannot be won, and there is usually a better-qualified search sitting next to it.
Concede the generic term honestly
"Liposuction dubai", "plastic surgeons dubai", "cosmetic surgeons in dubai" — all sitting in the thirties, all owned by multi-location groups. Recognising that early is what freed the budget for the terms that were winnable.
Find the word the specialists use
Liposculpture is the technique term, not the category term. Fewer searches, far less competition, and a patient who already knows what they are asking for.
Answer the set, not the term
By body area, by technique, by cost, by definition. Ten tracked liposculpture queries; the practice holds seven of them inside the top ten because each got its own page rather than a paragraph.
Let the specialist term carry the head term
"Liposuction liposculpture" at 3,600 searches a month now sits at seven — reached through the specialist cluster rather than by attacking the generic term directly.
The findings behind the numbers
Someone typing "liposuction dubai" is at the start of a category search and will compare a dozen clinics. Someone typing "liposculpture arms" has already decided on the technique, already knows it is done by area, and is looking for the surgeon who does it. The first query has six times the volume. The second converts, and a solo practice can actually win it.
How the cluster was built
The specialist term only works if the whole question set around it is answered. A single page called "liposculpture" would have ranked for one thing.
- A page per body area — arms, abdomen, double chin — rather than a list on one page
- A separate cost page, because the price question never shares well with a procedure page
- A definition page for "what is liposculpture", written for someone who has just heard the word
- Technique comparison against standard liposuction, which is the question that follows the definition
- The parent liposuction topic kept and expanded, so the specialist cluster has something to hang from
- Surgeon credentials and practice schema carried across every procedure page

A small tracked set for a single-surgeon practice, deliberately concentrated on one procedure family rather than spread across the category.
And the generic terms, for honesty
| Keyword | Position | Volume / mo |
|---|---|---|
| plastic surgeon in dubai | 11 | 880 |
| dubai plastic surgeon | 15 | 880 |
| plastic surgery dubai | 18 | 880 |

| liposuction dubai | 38 | 1,000 |
| plastic surgeons dubai | 39 | 880 |
| lipo dubai | 48 | 1,300 |
These are the searches a clinic group wins. They are included because a case study that shows only the good half is not evidence.

What we delivered
- Seven of ten tracked liposculpture queries inside the top ten, including the 3,600/mo head term at #7
- First, third and sixth across the core liposculpture set
- 185 items published, 40 of them on the specialist term alone

An honest snapshot, not a peak
In the most recent tracked period 16 of the 51 keywords improved and 30 declined, largely on the generic category terms this programme does not compete for. The liposculpture cluster held. We are happy to walk through the full reporting history, including the movement against us, on request.
The verdict: strategic SEO transforms businesses
A solo surgeon will not take the category term off a clinic group, and chasing it wastes the budget that could own something else. The specialist vocabulary was available, better qualified and winnable — and it is now held almost end to end.
